Impact Report 2026 Annex | Scottish National Investment Bank:  Impact assessment methodology and reporting data

Investing in Scotland’s future: impact in action

At the Scottish National Investment Bank, investment is about more than finance. It is about delivering lasting change - supporting people, businesses, and communities across Scotland to thrive.

Our 2026 Impact Report shows how this approach is making a real difference. Since launch, our investments have positively impacted over 325,000 people, helping to improve lives through better housing, stronger communities and increased connectivity.

Supporting people and communities

A key part of our work is tackling Scotland’s housing challenge. To date, we’ve supported the development of 983 affordable homes, providing people with access to high-quality places to live.

We also recognise that strong communities need strong local economies. In 2025, our investments supported 3,330 jobs, helping businesses grow while creating opportunities for people across the country. These outcomes are about more than numbers, they represent families finding stability, communities growing stronger and individuals building better futures.

Driving the transition to net zero

Scotland’s transition to a low carbon economy is a core investment objective. Through our investments, we’ve helped avoid or reduce over 235,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, supporting cleaner energy and more sustainable industries.

We are investing in energy infrastructure, innovation and supply chains that strengthen Scotland’s energy security while creating skilled jobs. This ensures the transition to net zero is not only environmentally responsible, but also fair and inclusive.

Backing innovation and growth

Innovation plays a vital role in building a more productive economy. Our support for innovative businesses has helped generate £149 million in research and development spending, alongside the development of new technologies and ideas. From advanced manufacturing to digital and life sciences, these investments are helping Scottish businesses scale, compete internationally and create high-quality jobs.

Strengthening Scotland’s economy

Our impact goes beyond individual investments. Since launch, we’ve committed over £1 billion, attracting significant additional funding from other investors, and for every £1 million we invest, an average of £1.7 million of additional capital is brought into the Scottish economy, helping to unlock even greater impact.

We’re also supporting local supply chains, with £411 million spent across Scotland to date, helping businesses of all sizes benefit from economic growth.

Looking ahead

While 2025 presented economic challenges, our focus remains clear: investing in a stronger, fairer and more sustainable Scotland. By supporting the transition to net zero, tackling inequality and helping businesses scale, we are committed to delivering long-term impact for people and communities across the country. This is what impact investing looks like in practice, and we’re just getting started.
